Respect and Love for Home and Elders
敬愛故鄉(xiāng)及故鄉(xiāng)的父老。亦說“恭敬桑梓”。古人常在住宅周邊種植桑樹以養(yǎng)蠶制絲，種植梓樹以制作器具，因而古人常用“桑梓”表達(dá)敬愛父母、祖先之義，后來衍生出思念故土、熱愛家鄉(xiāng)之義。這是蘊(yùn)藏于人類心底最深厚持久的感情之一。而“桑梓”所代表的以親緣和地緣為基本特征的共同體精神或認(rèn)同意識，則被歷代的文人騷客所摹刻和贊頌，成為家國情懷的重要體現(xiàn)。
The expression denotes respect and love for one's home and elders. In ancient times, people planted mulberry trees around their homes to raise silk worms, and catalpa trees for the wood. Gradually, these came to symbolize respect for parents and ancestors, and later extended to include their home and birthplace. Such homesickness and love of one's native place are some of the deepest and most enduring human emotions, giving people a sense of identity and belonging. These emotions have been extolled by men of letters throughout the ages, and they have become an important manifestation of love for one's country.
